The Endosymbiont Theory suggests that certain organelles in eukaryotic cells, particularly mitochondria and chloroplasts, originated as free-living prokaryotic organisms that were engulfed by an ancestral eukaryotic cell. Over time, these engulfed prokaryotes formed a symbiotic relationship with the host cell, eventually becoming an integral part of the eukaryotic cell. The theory was first proposed by Lynn Margulis in the 1960s and is supported by evidence such as the double membranes of these organelles, their own DNA, and their ability to replicate independently of the host cell. This is an MCQ on Endosymbiont Theory with Answers.
